The Essential Post-Holiday Walk

The weekend after Thanksgiving is the ideal time to gift ourselves the simple, yet profound, healing of being outside in nature before the rest of December unfolds. Trust me, you deserve it. I know the enticement of planning and celebrating can be captivating (and stressful), but there's magic in solitude and silence too.

So this weekend I'm Daring you—and lovingly Dared my own sister in the same direction—to step away from the holiday noise and step into the outdoors when things feel crazy. Think of it as a spirited dance with the earth—so ideally no podcast music—just you, your thoughts, and some fresh air.

Choose what's best for you: a mountain trail, a stretch of beach, or a comforting path through a park. And take longer than you normally would. Pause to watch the trees, look out at the waves long enough to feel your breath, to hear the wind, or to simply feel alive in the chill of the air.

Make it a daily ritual. Commit to it as non-negotiable as your morning coffee. A gift of solo time for yourself this holiday season. Let this quiet walk become a gentle reset button, nudging you back to center before the lists or travel plans kick in.

And I would encourage your partners to find their own moments of solitude too, whether through a round of golf or a ski run down a snowy hill. Whatever rejuvenates the spirit, embrace it wholeheartedly.

And with that, I'm off to take a walk to the dog park ;-)
