She will try to cancel the trip.

“But please, don’t let her.”

Today, I have a story for you about my friend Kathy…

Kathy Foote is afraid of flying, doesn't like hiking, won't get near a horse, and had never been to Montana before her husband bought her a Dare retreat experience with the warning that she would try to cancel. She did try - twice.

But come one beautiful September day, and in spite of her fears and anxiety, Kathy Foote stepped way out of her comfort zone and joined me for Dare | Montana 2018. Kathy and I spoke several times prior to her arriving here in Montana and discussed ALLLLLLL the things she was unsure of, travel logistics and general retreat stuff. I promised her that I would support her every step of the way.

The day she traveled, I stayed in contact with her via text throughout, starting in Southern California at LAX, all during her layover in Denver, on her final leg into BZN, and then finally (the best part) greeting her and the rest of the Darlings at the bottom of the escalator at the Bozeman International Airport!

Getting Kathy to take the leap and travel by herself to Montana was a huge hurdle. (Her husband Daniel gets full credit for getting her to jump.) However, once she got to the ranch, I watched Kathy settle in and bravely loosen her grip as the slower tempo of the ranch and the surrounding wilderness worked their magic. Several weeks after the retreat, I followed up with Kathy and checked in with her to see how her transition back to her day-to-day was going...

The first thing she shared was that during her time at the ranch she remembered how to slow down, put her phone away, and be fully present. Kathy said the hike we did confirmed she really doesn't like to hike, LOL. But she told me her Detour experience filled her heart to overflowing in a such meaningful way, and that it was still overflowing. All this to say, Darlings, if Kathy Foote can travel solo, you can too!

Travel physically pushes you to get out of your comfort zone and break from routine. Solo travel forces you to step into your personal strength in ways you may not have thought possible - Kathy's story is a case in point.
