Why Every Woman Should Experience Solo Travel

A solo female travel experience is incredible for the soul — at any age.

I am deeply passionate about this and believe it to my core. Providing safe and meaningful opportunities for women to experience travel is the intention behind Dare to Detour and it's at the root of our mission.

Personally, I have gained a profound appreciation for solitude these past few years. At first, it seemed forced on me through my breast cancer journey during a pandemic, and then divorce. I found myself in solitude more than I ever have in my entire life. And it was really uncomfortable at first. But lately, I have gained a strong appreciation for solitude, particularly when I can find solitude in nature and when traveling.

This is also why I've made safe solo time a huge focus as part of the Dare retreats. I want to ensure that each woman who Detours with me will have the opportunity to find her own quiet solitude at least once a day.

If you're a woman who's interested in solo travel, Detouring with me is actually a really good introduction to it! We travel as a group, so you're fully supported. Your safety is of paramount importance. (It's something I actively plan for in advance no matter what kind of Detour we're doing so that everyone feels extremely safe.) But this way, you have the support of women experiencing a journey like you and space for yourself each day.

As women, we can be plagued by the societal stigma of aloneness whether we are in a partnership or not. Why is it that so many of us have such a hard time being alone? Through Dare, I want to support a different perspective, one that values solitude and supports ways to seek out and find space in the midst of a Detour and a group of women. If you can find solitude with me in the middle of Marrakech or while riding a horse at the Nine Quarter Circle Ranch, I know you'll be better able to do it when you return home.

No matter where we are Detouring, mornings will offer opportunities for solo sunrise meditations, followed by Mindful Movement led by Deving Helen Archilla. And then, every afternoon, we will find the time to pause and allow ourselves to rest and process the day before we gather for our evening activities.

This is focus I'm so excited to curate for each Dare experience. We CAN learn to cultivate solitude with the intention of recharging and reconnecting with self so we can be more grounded partners, parents, and friends.
